This Cogent RP Phenyl Hexyl™ HPLC Column has been a premium value and used by HPLC laboratories for years. It is double end capped ( fully ), with traditional bonding of a 6 carbon linkage with a terminal Phenyl Ring to the highest purity silica available, making this column ideal as an Alternate in some USP Methods that use the L11 Classification and a Phenyl Hexyl Stationary Phase.
With a 3µm Particle, this column is more efficient than a 5um column of the same phase and you will experience sharper peaks. However, due to the smaller particle size, there is an increased back pressure.
Used to Separate aromatic compounds that have some hydrophobicity, these columns may offer different Selectivity from Phenyl Columns due to the extended C6 linker in the ligand. The pi-pi interactions of the Phenyl Group are heightened due to the distance from the Silica Surface (away from Silanol activity) and allows for excellent Retention and Separation of many polar compounds with Benzene rings. These include some Isomers (positional), Tocopherols, Flavonoids, Polynuclear Aromatics, Nitro-Aromatic Compounds, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Natural Products and Related Compounds. To optimize the pi interaction, using Methanol instead of Acetonitrile is suggested.
This column size is excellent, and a favorite for LCMS.
